Gaylord receives Distinguished Alumnus Award

"A Renaissance man" is just one attribute used by colleagues to describe the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association's 2009 Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. William C. "Bill" Gaylord.  Other descriptors include "a man of many talents and skills" and "a natural leader."  Gaylord received the prestigious alumni award during the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association Homecoming Reception at the Adolphus Hotel on Jan. 22, 2010.

He inherited his dedication to the dental profession and community from his father, Dr. Robert Gaylord, founder of the graduate department of orthodontics at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. Gaylord and his father both are recognized for their positive influence and mentoring in leading numerous individuals to the specialty of orthodontics.

Gaylord received his dental degree in 1964 from Baylor College of Dentistry and a master's degree in orthodontics in 1966 from the St. Louis University College of Dentistry.  He served from 1966 to 1968 as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps. Gaylord then moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., where he and his wife, Carole, currently reside, and where he maintains a private orthodontic practice. He has always been available to present stimulating guest lectures to the residents of Baylor over the last several years.
